I recently ventured into iron-ons, and wanted to share a very simple tutorial with you. Whimsie Doodles' digital images are perfect for this little baby gift!
Here is what you need for this project:
Whimsie Doodles image
baby burp cloth (pre-washed to avoid shrinkage)
printer
Iron-on transfer kit (available in notions and craft sections in major retail stores)
iron
flat sturdy surface
coloring medium
Let's get started.
First choose which adorable Whimsie Doodles image you want to use. I used the new baby bear collection, starting with the boy image.
My computer has an easy print option, so I printed it on a 3x5 size on to the transfer sheet:
Let the image cool for about a half hour, just to prevent smearing.
When cooled down, trim as close to the image as possible while iron is heating up on the highest cotton setting. Ideally a wooden surface will provide a sturdy area for the transfer. I used our dining table and covered the area with a towel.
Remove the backing from the image, it peels off quite easily. Be sure that you have a piece of parchment paper for the transfer, the kit I purchased had one included but some of them do not. Parchment paper can also be found at your grocery store as it is a popular item used for baking.
Cover the entire image with the parchment paper.
Press firmly on the image, 20 seconds for each time. The parchment paper will prevent any scorching so don't worry about any burn marks! A total of 2 minutes would be perfect, ironing the entire image in portions first, and then over the entire piece in smooth strokes.
Here is the entire image transferred completely:
And the girl version:
This is a very easy and fun project, perfect for baby showers and customizing it to your own nursery colors! My baby's room happens to be in browns and blues which inspired my boy cloth, that wonderful ribbon was a great starting point for my girl cloth.
You can find these new adorable images HERE in the Whimsie Doodles store.
Thank you all for coming by!

Those are adorable! What a great gift idea!
I do want to give a word of caution though...I ironed on a towel on my kitchen table, and it caused a big white spot (where the varnish separated from the wood) :( Not a happy camper that day.
What an excellent idea.....I love this images and your idea on the iron on......thank you for sharing....
Haha! Good tip Crystal! I did have a sheet under the towel, just because DH gave me that 'look.' ;)
Oh Joni this is just the cutest idea and a great baby gift too!! Love the tutorial and thanks so much for sharing!
